Do not reach for the can! Basic cranberry sauce is easy, I promise. And it tastes so much better and there will be no Bisphenol A (BPA) from the lining of the can. Here is a fail-safe recipe that you can prepare 1 week ahead.

Basic Cranberry Sauce 1

Ingredients (buy organic when possible):

  • 1 (12-ounce) bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons finely grated orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt

Preparation:

Makes about 2 1/4 cups

Bring all ingredients to boil in heavy medium saucepan, stirring often. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until most of the cranberries burst, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Transfer sauce to medium bowl. Cool, cover, and refrigerate cranberry sauce. DO AHEAD Basic Cranberry Sauce can be prepared 1 week ahead. Keep refrigerated.

You can also add a dash of nutmeg and cinnamon to spice it up. Delicious!

Enjoy.
